By most powerful or strongest, I mean the ones that can afford you the most travel destinations without a prior visa application. Ones with commendable number of visa-free and visa on arrival countries. That’s how the strength of passports are measured, anyway.
Having many visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations means the country has good diplomatic ties and all with many countries, which spells well for economics and politics.

Top 10 Most Powerful Passports in Africa
This list of countries with the strongest passports in Africa was extracted from the list of the world’s most powerful passports by Henley Passport Index.
We included their position in the world passport ranking so you could see how they match up with the rest of the world.
Seychelles has the most powerful passport in Africa. It ranks as the 29th best passport in the world and would allow a holder travel to 151 countries without a prior visa application.
Next on the list of countries with the most power passports in Africa is Mauritius. It ranks 32nd in the world. It can afford you the luxury of travelling to 146 countries without first applying for visa.
South Africa has the 3rd best passport in Africa, 56th in the world and 100 visa-free and visa on arrival countries.
Botswana has the 4th strongest passport in Africa, but the 62nd in the world. The Botswanan passport can afford you travel to 84 countries without visa.
The Namibian passport ranks 67th in the world, which makes it the 5th most powerful passport in Africa. It can provide visa-free travel to 76 countries.
Anyone with a Lesotho passport has the opportunity to visit 74 visa free countries, which makes it the 6th strongest in Africa and 69th in the world.

Malawi has the 8th best passport in Africa, 71st best in the world with the opportunity to travel to 72 countries without a visa.

Finally in the list of African countries with the strongest passports in Africa, Tanzania and Zambia both rank 10th. With 70 visa free countries each, they have the same travel opportunities and are the world’s 73rd best.
